About Insight in a minute

“The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.”
Proverbs 4:7

In order to live a life that glorifies God (our ultimate purpose) each one of us needs wisdom and insight. We need to know the truth deeply and live it skillfully in each area of our lives. That is the aim of Insight in a Minute.

Who is writing?

My name is Chris Eelman, and ever since the Lord saved me from my sin and gave me new life in Christ, I’ve been on a mission to bring God glory by introducing others to Jesus Christ and teaching them to follow Him. My wife Julianne and I are blessed to be parenting five children and live in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. By God’s grace, I’ve been able to serve in vocational ministry at Harvest Bible Church Windsor since 2012; and over the years I’ve also had the opportunity of studying at Heritage College (B.R.S., 2012) and Moody Theological Seminary (M.Div., 2017). My life has been profoundly influenced by many men and women of faith who unashamedly pointed me to the hope found in Christ as revealed in the Word of God. I am immensely grateful for them, and much of what you will read here has been shaped by their faithful witness.

Two Lessons

While seminary taught me many valuable things, two stand out as helpful to point out here. The first lesson was the value of brevity in communication. Brevity lends to clarity. This is true for the writer as well as the reader. And clarity is essential to good communication. For that reason many (not all) of the posts on this site will be shorter in length.

The second lesson was the value of time – specifically the time of others. My homiletics (preaching) professor explained that 100 people listening to 30 minutes of a sermon equaled 3,000 minutes (50 hours) of peoples’ time. His point was to encourage future pastors to spend the needed time in study so as not to waste peoples’ time with poorly prepared content. Because your time is valuable, and I have no desire to waste it or mislead, I intend to post quality content even if that means a lower quantity of content (i.e. less frequent posts).

True Source of Insight

Speaking of valuable things, I can think of no better source of wisdom and insight than God’s Word – the Bible. While I enjoy making memorable phrases, nothing compares to God’s Word. And that’s why I will do everything I can to help you remember and treasure and obey God’s Word in your own life. For more on the foundational beliefs I hold to you can read here.

Why a website?

While I’ve used social media as a tool to share these #insightinaminute posts (and will continue to do so for now on facebook & Instagram), this site will provide a more permanent home for these posts and will also give access to those who might benefit from accessing it directly.
