Pray To End AbortionDo you really believe that?” came a voice from a parking lot. I looked over and caught her eyes.

“Yes, I do” I responded calmly

She replied, “If your daughter was raped, would you make her have the baby? Would you really want her to have to look at that baby and be reminded of her rapist every time?”

I sensed there was more to this conversation than a simple exchange of ideas.

I responded and said that, ultimately, I can’t make decisions for other people, but that I would do everything I could to convince others that one evil action (rape) is not solved by carrying out another evil action (abortion) – especially against an individual (the baby) who is not guilty.

The evil of rape is real. It’s disgusting, detestable and something I pray will end. I told her that.

That’s when she revealed that she had been raped 30 years earlier.

While she had not personally needed an abortion, the scenario was all too real for her to ignore. The pain of her past clearly lived on in the present. Understandably so. What happened to her was incredibly evil and violent. I was grieved for her.

She asked again, “Do you really want someone to look at their baby and be reminded of their rapist every time?”

In order to answer, I took her to a different example. The example of Jesus Christ. We have offended Jesus by our sins. Yet, in love, He has not aborted or abandoned us – the very people (you and me) who have sinned against Him. Instead, he offers forgiveness for our sins. God doesn’t abort us when we are guilty. How could we possibly justify aborting a baby when the baby is not guilty?

There is a third option she had not considered. Forgiveness.

There is a third option she had not considered. Forgiveness.

At the end of the day, many people like this woman will disagree based on emotions or popular rhetoric, but never based on truth because the truth of God’s Word is abundantly clear. “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Romans 12:21

Emotions make terrible drivers but are essential passengers. Let truth drive.

Emotions make terrible drivers but are essential passengers. Let truth drive.

The truth is that babies in the womb are human beings with God given rights. The truth is that forgiveness is more powerful and restorative than the dark evil of rape and abortion.
